1945 – 2016

LEWISTON — Sandra Ann (Childs) Sirois Fitzgerald, 70, a resident of Leeds, died Tuesday, April 26, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She was born May 4, 1945, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Perley J. Childs Sr. and Thelma L. (Whittier) Childs. Sandra was a graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn. Sandra earned her associate degree in social services from the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College. She also studied medical terminology and human biology.

She married the father of her children, Gerard A. Sirois Jr., on Nov. 24, 1962, in Auburn. Later, on Dec. 20, 1996, in Lewiston, she married Vernon Fitzgerald. She worked as a certified nursing assistant unit secretary at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for several years. She was also a private health caregiver, providing care and support for end-of-life patients, including many of her own family members. She ran a video dating service in Lewiston and also worked in radio advertising sales for WTHT-FM. She was later the owner-operator of the Log Cab-Inn in Lewiston. 

She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed singing Patsy Cline songs at karaoke, traveling and entertaining guests. Sandra was known as the life of the party. Her humorous way and attention to detail, as well as endless generosity were the catalyst in creating amazing holiday family get-togethers and traditions.

Sandra was known as a loving, kind and giving mom, grammy, companion, sister, aunt and friend. She was driven by her deep faith in our Lord. Her faith guided her to evangelize the world around her. She was the matriarch of the family and her legacy will live on through them. She will be sadly missed by many.

She is survived by her longtime companion of 18 years, John A. Picard of Leeds; her children, Richard Sirois Sr. and his wife, Laurie, of Leeds, Daniel Sirois and his wife, Kelley, of Litchfield, and Gerard Sirois III and his wife, Cathleen, of Leeds; grandchildren, Richard Sirois Jr., Megan Tielinen, Danielle Leighton and her husband, Daniel, Crystal Sirois, Dylan and his wife, Ana Sirois, Cortney Sirois, Kelsey Williamson, Joshua Sirois, Sierra Sirois, Marissa Williamson, Hunter Sirois, and Noah Sirois; great-grandchildren, Camden, Graysen and Cardin Leighton, Ryder Sirois, and Maddox Treasure; siblings, Virginia Blackwell, Josephine Gower, William Childs, Guy Childs and Brenda O’Neil.

She was predeceased by her parents, Perley James Childs Sr. and Thelma Lorraine Childs; her siblings, Perley Childs Jr., and Katherine Mary Colby; and her husband, Vernon Fitzgerald.
