A Lewiston Public Works Department employee was injured Wednesday night when his street sweeper was flipped over in an unusual accident on Albert Street. Police said the sweeper driver had delivered a load of sand from his sweeper unit to a dump truck at about 11:45 p.m., and was backing away when a protective bar caught on part of the truck, causing the sweeper to flip over. The driver of the sweeper was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was treated for minor arm and hand injuries and released. Damage to the sweeper was estimated at $100. The dump truck was not damaged.
