FARMINGTON — Voters in the 10 towns that make up Regional School Unit 9 will have their chance to vote on a proposed $32.97 million school budget and a $404,034 adult education budget June 1.

The districtwide meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Mt. Blue Campus on Seamon Road in Farmington. It will be in either the Bjorn Auditorium or the gymnasium. School officials are working with a group that previously booked the auditorium for that day to see if they can wrap up what they are doing by 6 p.m., Superintendent Tom Ward said. If not, then the meeting will be in the gymnasium.

The districtwide vote is the first of two votes that will be taken on the proposed spending plans for 2016-17.  A yes or no validation referendum on the budget amount approved June 1 will be held June 14 in individual towns.

The school board approved the $404,034 adult education budget Tuesday night. It represents an increase of $18,544 from the current budget. It also reflects less anticipated revenue.

If additional funding is needed to hire a new adult education director, it will have to come from contingency, Ward said. Director Ray Therrien has resigned effective at the end of the school year.

The school board set the proposed school budget at $32.97 million budget for 2016-17 on April 26.

It is $929,273 more than this fiscal year, an overall 2.9 percent increase factoring in anticipated revenues and carryover money to offset the increase for towns.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in the Forum at Mt. Blue Campus to sign warrants for the proposed articles to go before voters.
