‘April showers bring May Flowers’

DENMARK — Stewardship manager Jon Evans will lead Loon Echo Land Trust’s Spring Wildflower Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 14, up the Southwest Ridge Trail of Pleasant Mountain.

The month of May is a classic time of the year for wildflowers of the northern hardwood forest to begin their colorful show. Trillium, Canada mayflowers and wild columbine are just a few of the species expected to be seen in various stages of bloom on the way to the summit. Loon Echo staff and volunteers will educate participants in flower identification as well as the natural and cultural history of Pleasant Mountain.

Hikers and Loon Echo staff will meet at the Southwest Ridge trailhead on the west side of Pleasant Mountain, located off Wilton Warren and Denmark roads. Weather conditions can vary greatly in May, so hikers should come prepared with warm clothing, sturdy hiking boots or shoes, food and water.
