Jay VFW Memorial Day events
JAY — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3335 has announced its Memorial Day weekend activities.
There will be a potluck supper on Friday, May 27. Those attending should bring a dish.
The Lost and Found Band will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 28.
A yard and rummage sale is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29.
The annual chicken barbecue will following the parade festivities at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30.
Yard sale for Hartford church
TURNER — Hartford Community Church will hold a two-day yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Goodwin Well & Water Inc. on Route 4.
Living School open for tours
TEMPLE — Koviashuvik Local Living School’s Open Homestead is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 28.
Tour times are at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sights include the new classroom, stone root cellar, ice storage house, earth-bermed greenhouse, Cree-inspired earth lodge, vegetable gardens, nut orchard, edible landscaping, rainwater collection systems, solar dehydrator, solar hot water system, rocket stoves, composting toilet and the Knapp’s log cabin home.
Admission is free.
Legion plans Memorial Day events
FARMINGTON — American Legion Roderick-Crosby Post 28 has announced its Memorial Day events for Monday, May 30.
A wreath-laying ceremony service will take place at 9 a.m. at the World War I monument.
Services at Post 28 will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m., lining up in the Mallet School parking lot.
A light lunch will be served at the American Legion following the parade.
Historical Society 50th birthday
BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society will celebrate five decades of collecting, preserving and sharing the region’s history on Tuesday, May 31 — 50 years to the day that the society was founded at the Bethel Library.
The event takes place at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Moses Mason House. It is free and open to the public.
The program will begin with a brief overview of the society’s history, followed by special musical entertainment of 1920s jazz, ragtime and blues performed by Miss Maybell and Slimpickins, two musicians and accomplished plein air artists from Jackson, N.H.
Birthday cake will be served.
Nordica Homestead Museum opening
FARMINGTON — The Nordica Homestead Museum will open for the season on Wednesday, June 1.
It houses artifacts from the life and career of the famous opera diva Lillian Nordica, born in Farmington in 1857.
Museum is located on Holley Road off Routes 4 and 27. It is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission costs $5 for adults and $2 for children.

Nature club heading to Brunswick
OXFORD — The Twin Town Nature Club will travel to Brunswick to visit the wire bridge and fish ladder on Thursday, June 2.
Members should meet at 9 a.m. in the south side of the Wal-Mart parking lot close to Route 26 to carpool.
They should also bring a bag lunch.
Visitors are welcome.
