1919 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Rose E. Oliver, 96, of Farmington died Tuesday, May 31, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Rose was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Livermore Falls, a daughter of Guy and Marion (Grant) Alexander. She grew up in a family of 12 children, receiving her education from local schools. On Nov. 14, 1936, she married Robert H. Oliver Sr. in Farmington.

Rose spent her younger years working for Farmington Shoe and later, G.H. Bass, from which she eventually retired. She was a dedicated parishioner of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Methodist Women’s group. Rose was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was honored for her dedicated and active service within the church. She was a lifelong member of the World War I Auxiliary and served on the Red Schoolhouse Extension until each group disbanded.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bingo, knitting and crafting. Rose graciously made gifts for other people and everyone in her family has received a handmade item she made.

She is survived by her children, Robert Oliver Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Farmington, and Denis Oliver and his wife, Beverly, of Wilton; siblings, Betty Houle of Jay, Ernestine Dupont of West Farmington, Barbara Davis and her husband, Billy, of Farmington, Robert Alexander and his wife, Peggy, of West Farmington, Keith Alexander of Farmington, and Donald Alexander and his wife, Olive, of New York; sister-in-law, Polly Alexander of Las Cruces, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Oliver Sr.; a son, Gerald Oliver; siblings, Alice Paul, Marvette Ranger, Philip Alexander, Deanna Alexander, Guy Alexander and Harold Alexander; and a baby sibling.
