1928 – 2016

RUMFORD — Ardis E. (Hart) Footman, 88, formerly of Greene, died Monday morning, June 6, at the Rumford Community Home, with family at her side.

She was born in Southport, one of five children born to Walter and Thelma (Stickney) Hart. Because her mother died when Ardis was very young, she was raised by her father and stepmother, Minnie, and was educated in Southport schools. On Sept. 15, 1947, she married Harold “Red” Footman and together they settled in Greene to raise their family. He predeceased her on Jan. 30, 2013.

Ardis worked as a stay-at-home mom, working to make a home for her family as her children grew up. She then worked for a time at Carlton Woolen Mill in Winthrop and later worked with her husband, Red, running their antique business out of their home.

She was a longtime member of the Greene Baptist Church and enjoyed special family times, knitting, cooking and the company of her pet rabbits. She was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind a son, Walter Getchell of Sabattus; four daughters, Peggy Dearborn and husband, Dan, of Wales, Karen Footman of Greene, Elaine Wood of Leeds, and Tracy Johnson and husband, Bob, of Readfield; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Red; her daughter, Holly; her granddaughter, Danielle; a sister, Phyllis; and three brothers, Walter, Preston and Neal.
