LEWISTON — The race for Register of Probate was too close to call Tuesday night, with all but three towns reporting unofficial results.
Leslie Dubois of Lewiston led by 42 votes over Joanna Said of Livermore. The towns of Livermore, Livermore Falls and Sabattus had not reported their tallies. The total from all other Androscoggin County towns was 1,181 to 1,139.
Dubois handily carried the county’s largest city, but Said appeared to be winning in most of the smaller towns.
The winner of Tuesday’s Republican primary will face Democrat Ira Bittues of Lewiston, who ran unopposed, in the general election in November. The position is a four-year term.
Dubois is a former Lewiston city councilor who is married to Judge of Probate Michael Dubois.
Said served eight months as Register of Probate in 2014 when she was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage to fill the vacancy following the resignation of Wendy Sanborn.
