Gig harbor, Wash. — Charles Russell Learned, 87, passed away Wednesday, June 1.

Charles was born in Rumford on June 5, 1928, to Phil and Margaret Learned. He graduated from Andover High School and immediately joined the U.S. Navy, serving four years mostly in the South Pacific. Upon separation from the navy in 1949, Charles married Gerry Massie of Everett, Wash. They moved to Maine where he attended Ricker College in Houlton. After graduation, they moved to Tacoma, Wash., and Chuck attended two years at the College of Puget Sound. Son, Mark and daughter, Pamela, were born of this union. After Gerry’s passing, Chuck met and married Donna Stone in 1979 and they moved to Gig Harbor, Wash.

Charles joined the National Bank of Washington in 1953 and later retired as vice president and manager of the main Tacoma office of First Interstate Bank after 40 years of service. Chuck was a member of the Tacoma Yacht Club since 1975, Rotary Club for 34 years, and Elks for 38 years. He also served as past president of the Daffodil Festival.

Chuck is survived by wife, Donna; son, Mark (Gail); daughter, Pamela (Bob); brother, Phil (Mary); stepson, Mark Stone (Lori); five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His sister, Dottie Jean, preceded Chuck’s passing.

You would often find Chuck and his family on their boat “Beaujolais” enjoying Puget Sound and points north.
