WILTON — The theme of Wilton Free Public Library’s summer reading program is Exercising Your Brain. Participants will focus on the importance of healthy eating, being active and reading.
“Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals” will kick off the program at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 30. Her presentation includes audience participation and giant handmade puppets.
There will be a variety of activities at Kineowatha Park, primarily during the lunch break between swim lessons. On some days, children can join Cassie for a story while eating their lunch. On other days, the Reading Rescue Ambulance will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to give out free books to children. There will also be a day to complete an obstacle course on one of the fields.
The following is a list of other activities planned for the summer:
Story walk: Begins Thursday, June 30. Pages of a summer-themed book will be posted along one of the trails at Kineowatha Park so participants can read the story while they exercise. The walk will remain available to families throughout the summer.
Jennifer Armstrong: Wednesday, July 13. Singer/songwriter Jennifer Armstrong will perform some of her music surrounding the theme Eat Like A Goat!, a take on this year’s healthy eating and fitness theme.
Center Hill in Weld: Tuesday, July 19. Parents and children are invited to meet at Center Hell in Weld for an easy nature hike. Participants are welcome to bring a picnic supper.
Kineowatha Park trail: Thursday, July 28. Participants are invited to walk some of the trails at Kineowatha Park, as well as make their own trail mix to take on the hike.
Storytime: Guest readers include Shannon Schinagl, the Maine State Library early literacy consultant; Police Chief Wilcox; Selectperson Tiffany Maiuri; Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton; and Town Manager Rhonda Irish. See calendar for specific dates.
There will be a storytime at Bass Park on Friday, July 1. Attendees should bring a picnic lunch.
Creative Movement for Littles: Tuesday, July 26, 4 p.m. Creative Movement for Littles and Braindance instructor Leah will lead children in a session.
Farmer Minor and pig Daisy: Thursday, Aug. 4. Farmer Minor and his pig Daisy will discuss how to “Pig out on reading.”
Children are welcome to take home a goal sheet and read books. Registration is encouraged. All events are free and open to the public.
