Flag disposal at Legion today

RUMFORD — American Legion Post 24 will have a flag-burning ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22.

Anyone with worn flags who want them disposed of properly and respectfully can bring them to the American Legion post on Congress Street.

The public is invited to attend this ceremony.

Kenyan orphanage leader to speak

BETHEL — Dorothy Selebwa, founder and director for the Kakamega Orphanage in Kenya, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, the West Parish Congregational UCC Church.

The community is invited to a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. prior to her talk. Those attending should bring a dish to share.

July 4 crafts at library

PARIS — Area children may drop by the Paris Public Library’s children’s room between 2 and 5 p.m. Monday, June 27, to make crafts to celebrate the Fourth of July. 

Heart flags, windsocks and painted fireworks will be available to paint. Watermelon will be served.

All ages are welcome.

DAR chapter to meet

WILTON — Colonial Daughters Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Calzolaio Pasta Co. restaurant.

The group will adjourn at 1 p.m. to the Wilton Historical Society, where Pam Brown will introduce the group to Sylvia Hardy, Wilton’s giantess. Hardy was born in 1824 at 3½ pounds and grew to almost 8 feet tall. Memorabilia will be on display.

Surveyor at Historical Society meeting

OXFORD — The Kay House Museum and Oxford Historical Society will conduct a monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at 73 Pleasant St.

Guest speaker is surveyor Barry Allen, who will present “Surveying and Its History” at 6:30 p.m. following the meeting.

Supper, auction to benefit legionnaire 

FARMINGTON — American Legion Post 28 will host a spaghetti supper and auction at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the legion hall.

Legionnaire Scott Flanders’ young son, Trent, is recovering from critical medical problems.

Donations for the auction are needed, and they can be handmade or baked goods. They should be dropped off by Friday, July 8.

Teen center seeking volunteers

OXFORD — The Rock House Teen Center on Webber Brook Road closed its doors for Friday night ministries on May 13 due to a lack of funding and volunteers.

The center is seeking adult volunteers to reopen soon.

Waterford Library silent auction, gala

WATERFORD — Waterford Library will host a silent auction Saturday, Aug. 13, with a gala under the stars behind the library.

Library trustees are lining up food, drink and items to auction off. Anyone who has an item they feel would spark interest in an eclectic audience should drop it off at the library by July 4.

The proceeds of the auction will go toward matching grant money for improvements to the apartment and produce preservation from the community garden.

Tickets can be purchased at the library for $3 for a single ticket and $5 for two.

Black tie optional.
