PORTLAND — Good Shepherd Food Bank of Auburn received an award for workplace safety from workers’ compensation specialist MEMIC. Only nine other employers, out of more than 20,000 MEMIC policyholders, were honored during the MEMIC annual meeting of the policyholders with a recognition award for outstanding safety performance.

Good Shepherd Food Bank solicits, secures, collects and distributes food for hundreds of food pantries, meal sites, senior centers, schools and other community programs throughout all 16 counties in Maine every day. Just this past year, it distributed more than 17.5 million meals to Mainers in need through its network of local partner agencies, feeding and nourishing 178,000 of Maine’s neediest.

“The best part,” said MEMIC’s chief ergonomist, Allan Brown, “is they move this food with the safety of the employees and volunteers first, and last year they didn’t have a single lost-time injury claim.”
