BETHEL — Katrina Waite, chairwoman of the Oxford County Republican Committee, and Patti Gagne, chairwoman of the Androscoggin County Republican Committee, have scheduled a special caucus to select a replacement for the Senate District 18 Republican nominee.

In a recent letter to Maine’s Secretary of State, Gary Knight withdrew as the Republican nominee for Senate District 18. He won the nomination in an uncontested primary on June 14.

The nominating caucus will be held at the annual Oxford County Republican Committee barbecue at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at the home of Stan Howe, 18 Broad St.

Senate District 18 consists of Livermore and Livermore Falls in Androscoggin County, and Andover, Bethel, Buckfield, Byron, Canton, Dixfield, Gilead, Greenwood, Hanover, Hartford, Hebron, Lincoln Plantation, Lovell, Magalloway Plantation, Mexico, Milton Township, Newry, North Oxford Unorganized Territory, Peru, Roxbury, Rumford, South Oxford Unorganized Territory, Stoneham, Stow, Sumner, Sweden, Upton, Waterford, West Paris and Woodstock.

According to Maine Republican State Party rules, all enrolled Republicans in District 18 towns who caucused and organized earlier this year are eligible to participate and vote in the special caucus, Gagne said in a written statement.

All the towns in the district are eligible with the exception of Byron, Canton, Gilead, Hanover, Lincoln Plantation, Lovell, Magalloway Plantation, Roxbury, Stoneham, Stow, Sumner and Upton. If any of these towns holds a party organizational caucus before July 12, it will be able to participate.

Lisa Keim of Dixfield has declared interest in seeking the nomination.

The nominee will be selected by a vote of the special caucus.
