The Lewiston-Auburn area appears to be just as hard hit by the nationwide airline strike as other areas of the country. Lawrence Margolin of the Union Square Travel Agency and Paul Dube of the Dube Travel Agency, both of Lewiston, said, when queried by the Journal, that the strike is causing special problems locally, in that many area residents have no way to get home from places as far away as California. Margolin said his biggest worry was that area Shriners, attending a Shrine convention in Las Vegas would not be able to make travel connections back to Lewiston.

A 71-year-old Auburn woman won $2.88 million in Wednesday’s drawing of Tri-State Megabucks. “I don’t know what I’ll do with it yet,” said Theresa Currier, who bought the drawing’s only winning ticket at Roy’s Foodland on Broad Street. “It’s too sudden. I haven’t had time to get used to the idea yet.” The store will get $28,800 — one percent of the jackpot — for selling the winning ticket. Currier said she was unable to have her ticket verified in Maine because of the state government shutdown. “They told me to go to New Hampshire, so that’s what I did,” she said Thursday. “My daughter and son-in-law drove me to Concord this morning.” Currier said she has played the lottery every week since it was instituted in Maine. “I won twice before,” she said. “Once $1,000 and once $500 on an instant-pick card.”
