REGION — If someone calls you from the number 419-559-2226, do not answer the phone, as it is a scam.
An area resident, who asked not to be identified, said that recently, someone called her mother pretending to be her son, who is 17. The male caller stated that he had been drinking and got involved in a car accident and had broken his nose.
He said that he was at the Franklin County Jail and needed bail money. The caller then asked for her credit card numbers for bail.
The resident said that her mother, who didn’t give out her credit card information, called her asking what was going on.
“I thought, ‘This is the end of my kid’s life,'” she said.
The resident traveled to the jail and asked if her son was there. “I went over and they said if he was 17, he wouldn’t be there.”
She said that she knew her son was working at McDonald’s, and called to make sure he was there. He was there working and accounted for.
In further conversations with police, the resident discovered that other people had received similar phone calls asking for credit card information.
“I don’t want anyone to have this happen to them.”
