LEWISTON — The Lewiston Little League swept the three  All-Star Divisions in Maine District Five winning the 9-10 Division, the 10-11 Division and the 11-12 Division. This was the first time in Lewiston Little League’s history and in Maine District Five’s history that a single league held three concurrent championship banners. Lewiston Little League then went on to the three respective State Tournaments playing deep into the summer. The 9-10 year old division played at host Westbrook Little League the week of July 23-29 posting a 2-2 record with wins over Machias and Waldo County. The 10-11 year old division played at host Augusta Little League from July 30-Aug. 6 posting a 2-2 record with wins over Medomak Valley and Hampden. The 11-12 year old division played at host Orrington Little League from July 23-29 posting a 2-2 record also with wins over Medomak Valley and Houlton.

The three District Five banners were displayed at a joint team meeting on July 21, 2016, prior to the start of the State Tournaments. A memorial home plate plaque labeled “MG” for Mike Giroux who passed away on February 14 is honorably placed at the center of the Lewiston Little League team photo. The Majors Field at the Lewiston Little League Complex was dedicated and renamed in his honor. The League also dedicated the season to him.

“Imagine losing the key person of your organization at the beginning of the season, but then attending three Opening Ceremonies at three separate State Tournaments to end the season,” League President Scott Lynch said. “Amazing players.”
