LEWISTON — Breakups are pretty good inspiration for musicians.

It seems to work for the creative people at Rinck Advertising in Auburn.

This year, Gorton’s Seafood of Gloucester, Massachusetts, ended its nine-year relationship with Rinck, according to the marketing agency. To process the agency’s feelings, Rinck president and Johnny Cash fan Laura Davis turned to music.

Specifically, “We’ll Meet Again,” a song originally performed by Vera Lynn in 1939 and covered by Johnny Cash in 2002.

Fast forward to June 2016 when 38 Rinck staff members gathered in Bates Mill No. 5 to perform “We’ll Meet Again” for a music video. Since that was the time that they would usually be at Gorton’s annual planning meeting, the staff was free.

The musicians were in-house talent:

  • Neal Jandreau, Rinck’s director of digital content and strategy, on lead vocals and guitar.
  • Production Artist Melissa Simmons accompanied Jandreau on ukulele.
  • Davis and Director of Dynamic Integration Kristy Phinney offered spoken word solos.
  • Public Relations Director Katie Greenlaw led a female a cappella verse.
  • CEO Peter Rinck played violin.

“We wanted to honor a relationship and collaboration that we had for nearly a decade,” Davis wrote in the statement. “I wanted to use the opportunity to set an example on how to end a business relationship well and leave the door wide open.”

Ramsey Tripp of Trade-mark R Productions, a frequent Rinck partner, shot and edited the video.

Rinck in releasing the video on Tuesday called it a cathartic experience and said the agency wished the best for Gorton’s future.

There’s no word on Gorton’s reaction to the video.
