MECHANIC FALLS — Regional School Unit 16 Adult Education has announced its upcoming classes.
ServSafe Certification: Mondays, four weeks, Nov. 7-28, 6 to 8 p.m. ServSafe is a nationally recognized certification required of certain staff in restaurants and other food establishments that prepare and/or serve food. This course will teach attendees what they need to know in order to take the certification exam during the last hour of class. Only 12 slots are available. Registration: $150.
Map/Chart Making: Tuesdays, five weeks, Nov. 1-29, 1 to 2:30 p.m. An introductory course for those interested in surveying, hiking, hunting, boating or other outdoor activities involving navigation. Learn to plot land by making grids, labeling points and coordinates and using a magnetic compass. Instructor Steve Paquette was a Merchant Marine captain and taught navigation for many years. A few supplies will be required. Registration: $15.
Yoga: Mondays, six weeks, Nov. 7 through Dec. 12, 6 to 7 p.m. Give yourself the gift of this class with certified yoga instructor Martha Stone. Appropriate for beginners or intermediate students who are seeking to learn to breathe through movement with the intention of moving toward calm and focus. Poses can be modified for different levels of fitness and experience. Participants should bring a mat, water and a blanket or towels for props. Registration: $40 for six-week session.
Silver and Stones: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 6 to 8 p.m. Learn how to customize jewelry with handmade sterling silver findings. Participants will make their own ear wires, clasps and connectors using hammers and steel plates to texturize, dap and punch. Registration: $50.
Mandatory Reporter Training: Thursday, Nov. 10, 2 to 4 p.m. This state-approved workshop, led by Amy Kimball, is for anyone who works with children or school-age students. Learn about the responsibilities of mandated reporters, types of abuse and factors, how to manage disclosures and how to make a report of suspected abuse. The class is free, but preregistration is required.
Hand-Stamped Cards: Thursday, Nov. 10, 6 to 8 p.m. Create your own hand-stamped Christmas cards with Michelle Breton. Make a set of four easy but beautiful cards using rubber stamps. Breton is a Stampin’ Up consultant with 16 years of experience making her own handmade cards. Registration: $10.
Stocks — Nuts & Bolts: Thursday, Nov. 17, 6 to 7:30 p.m. In this class, Mark Morrison of Edward Jones will share basic information to help potential or current investors evaluate whether or not stocks fit into their overall strategy. Common versus preferred stock, dividends, investment strategy and different ways to own stock will also be covered. Registration: $5.
