LEWISTON — The Stanton Bird Club of Lewiston and Auburn will have two Wednesday bird walks in October.

The first will be Oct. 12 to Pack-Littlefield Farm. The second is to Sabattus Pond on Oct. 26. The meeting place for both walks is in the Promenade Mall parking lot near Staples, 855 Lisbon St. Walks are from 8 to 11 a.m. Carpooling is available to each site. Trips are open to everyone. Those attending should dress for the weather and bring binoculars.

The Packard-Littlefield Farm is owned by retired teachers Robert and Ella Mae Packard. It has 260 acres enrolled in managed three growth, and hay fields cover more than 90 acres. The group will walk over 30 acres that’s been farmed by refugee and immigrant families for years.

Birds likely to be seen include the black-capped chickadee and the northern cardinal, which don’t migrate south. Also possible are the killdeer, the northern harrier and the eastern bluebird.

Attendees on the trip to Sabattus Pond may see common mergansers and pied-billed grebes, along with northern pintail and green-winged teal.

Both of the walks will be led by Stan and Joan DeOrsey. For any questions, call them at 207-406-4741.
