1921 – 2016

PORTLAND — Mabel (Burgess) Curtis, 95, a former resident of Churchill Road, Leeds, died Sunday, Oct. 9, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, with loved ones at her side.

She was born in Weld on April 4, 1921, the daughter of Irvin E. and Hattie Coolidge Wing. She attended Leeds schools and Monmouth Academy. In October 1939, Mabel married Cecil Burgess. Mr. Burgess passed away in 1973. In June 1978, she married Roy L. Curtis and he passed away in 2002.

Mabel was a housewife and mother. She did house-cleaning for local families. Mabel belonged to the Nazarene Church of Leeds, was a member of the Greene and Monmouth Senior Citizens and was the president of Leeds Sunday School.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Addison of Leeds and Deborah L. Gortmans and her husband, Paul, of Sun City West, Ariz.; three sons, Ronald Burgess and his wife, Beverly, of Monmouth, Cecil D. Burgess and his wife, Barbara, of Sun City, Ariz. and Keith E. Burgess of Litchfield; a stepdaughter, Rosalie Williams and her companion, Michael, of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her two husbands; a brother, Ivan Wing; a sister, Verdie Wing; a grandson, Jonathan Burgess; and a great-grandson, Zack MacKenzie.
