BRIDGTON — Harlan Baker, actor, teacher and storyteller, will present a program at the Bridgton Historical Society at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, in the museum on Gibbs Avenue.
He will use the Salem witch trials, the story of George Burroughs, and King Phillip’s War (1675-76) to explore relations between Maine and Massachusetts in the 17th century.
Baker is a former Maine legislator and teaches public speaking at the University of Southern Maine. He also works in Salem, Massachusetts, as a historical interpreter at the Pioneer Village 1630 and the Judge Corwin House on Essex Street in Auburn.
Two of his short plays, set in Spain during the 1936-39 civil war, were performed last spring in the Portland Fringe Festival.
His program will be preceded by a brief business meeting, which will include a report on the organization’s activities in the last year, election of board members, and a vote on a bylaws change to extend the term limits of trustees.
The public is invited to attend. Nonmembers are encouraged to make a $5 donation, and may become members by joining at the door.
