JAY — A dance with music by Sharon Hood and the Dixon Road Band will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at AMVETS Post 33, 111 Main St.

River Valley Animal Advocates meeting

DIXFIELD — River Valley Animal Advocates will hold its seventh annual member meeting from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the back of the Dixfield fire station.

Voting for the board of directors will take place. The board will then meet at 2:15 p.m.

Members of RVAA are individuals and local businesses that have helped the organization in any way.

Sons of Italy to meet

RUMFORD — The Sons of Italy will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the Lodge on Route 108.

Those attending should bring nonperishables for the Thanksgiving raffle.

ERD mask-making workshop

FARMINGTON — Everyone’s Resource Depot will hold Halloween mask-making workshops from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 24 to 28, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Mask-making will take place in Room 9 of the Theodora J. Kalikow Education Center at the University of Maine at Farmington, located at the corner of High and Lincoln streets.

Creative ideas for masks, costumes and party decorations made from ERD’s assortment of reusable materials will be shared with workshop participants.

Materials in good supply are sparkly felt, yarn, colorful foam pieces and buttons, paper of all kinds, leather scraps, feathers, ribbon and fabric.

A small fee will be charged for materials and instruction. All ages are welcome.

Oxford Historical Society Fright Night

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will hold its Halloween Fright Night and monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Kay House Museum/Oxford Historical Society, 73 Pleasant St.

Those attending should wear their favorite costume and bring Halloween stories and family photos to share.

Cider and doughnuts will be provided.

Fourth Thursday Poetry Oct. 27

RUMFORD — The next gathering of poets and poetry lovers will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Rumford Public Library.

The meeting begins with refreshments, followed by participants reading and talking about poetry.

The event is free and open to the public.

College planning workshop Oct. 27

WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop titled Essentials of College Planning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Wilton CareerCenter, 865 U.S. Route 2E.

The workshop is for adults 19 and older.

Other services provided by the center are general education diploma/SAT preparation, college planning, referrals/advocacy, career advising, financial aid advising, college admissions process and application fee waivers for qualified adults.

Daughters of Union Veterans meeting

PARIS — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, of Stoneham, will meet Thursday, Oct. 27, at the First Baptist Church of Paris.

The last meeting was on Sept. 29. New members Margaret Babineau and Virginia Labbe joined.

Member Carlene Gavin brought a beautiful quilt she made in memory of her great-grandfather, Jarod Dunkleberger, a veteran of the Civil War, who was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg.
