Louis Lachance, Jr. is mourning the loss of a new umbrella. While he was at the office of the Lewiston City Clerk, yesterday, someone took the umbrella and left one of ancient vintage in its place.

50 years ago, 1966
Swollen by two days of heavy, torrential-like rain, the usually-placid Androscoggin River was threatening Thursday night to overrun its banks at several low spots along the valley and property owners were nervously watching its progress. The river is expected to crest late Friday afternoon or evening about eight feet above normal. The two-day storm brought more than five inches of rain and some of the worst autumn weather experienced in the region. Powerful winds drove the rain with almost unbelievable force. Together, the rain and wind caused a great amount of damage in its two-day rampage.
