RUMFORD — Poland Spring Water Co. will make a presentation at the Rumford Water District meeting set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Rumford Falls Auditorium, according to district officials.

For the past year, the subsidiary of Nestle Waters North America has run tests on Rumford Water District property off Route 5, the site of the district’s primary well that supplies water to the town. The purpose is to determine how much water can be tapped from the area.

Mark Dubois, a geologist and natural resource manager for Poland Spring, said last summer that he hoped to report the results from more than 20 test wells to the community in late fall or early winter.

District Superintendent Brian Gagnon said that after Poland Spring’s presentation, the district’s legal counsel will decide whether an executive session is needed.

The district’s three trustees, all appointed by selectmen, ultimately vote a project up or down.

In a recent letter to the editor, trustee Chairman James Thibodeau and trustees Harrison Burns and Jolene Lovejoy wrote, “The District will only consider an agreement to sell water to Poland Spring if the agreement: (1) allows the District to continue to provide a safe, reliable source of water to all its customers without harm to the sustainable yield of the Ellis River aquifer; (2) stabilizes or even lowers rates for its customers; and (3) creates economic and social benefits for the community.”

Other items on the agenda include a safety grant, a hydrant insurance claim and well and pump inspections.
