AUBURN — Gertrude J. O’Brien, 97, of Rangeley died early Tuesday evening, Nov. 29, at Bolster Heights Nursing Home in Auburn.

She was born in Lake Stevens, Wash., a daughter of Thurey and Elizabeth (Anderson) Johansson. She attended Hofstra University for two years and was married to Gerald B. Richards, who passed at a young age.

She later married Clarence J. O’Brien and owned and operated the Rangeley Region Sport Shop for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, but her true love was the outdoors and fishing. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

She is survived by a son, Gregory Richards and his wife, Gisele, of Barre, Vt.; a granddaughter, Lisa Byers and her husband, Charles; great-grandchildren, Charles and Lily Byers of Winslow and Falyn Sicard of Barre, Vt.
