About a year ago, I experienced a similar good deed at the Hannaford in Auburn when a lovely older couple ahead of me paid my grocery bill, and last winter, two gallant gentlemen sprang from their vehicles to push mine out of a snowbank. Wonderful people as well!
I am grateful for the opportunity to live, work and raise my child in the midst of such fine people in L-A. My holiday wish is for good health, happiness, and prosperity for all who make up this community I proudly call home. — A grateful neighbor, Auburn.
ANSWER: Thank you for sharing these experiences. We do have a community full of kind and caring people.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Trinity Jubilee Center is in need of winter jackets, winter boots, hats and gloves, blankets and sleeping bags to help out those less fortunate. Some people live outdoors or don’t have a lot of heat. The Jubilee Center will take anything it can get — all sizes, kids, women’s and men’s. There’s a big need for large men’s winter jackets and coats. A large-sized men’s jacket or coat is more practical because it can be used for more people. A medium-sized woman could wear a large man’s coat. The Trinity Jubilee Center, at 247 Bates St., adjacent to Kennedy Park, is open 8-3 Monday-Friday, 10-12:30 on Saturdays. — Erin Reed, Executive Director, Trinity Jubilee Center.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: A correction: soups, not soaps, for leftover cooking water. It’s got some nutrients. Even leftover macaroni and spaghetti water can go into soups. I use less water to cook than the packages direct. It works.
More on conserving water: A bucket under the eaves when it rains (or many buckets) gives water to the garden. Same for snow melt off the roof. It’s not drinking water but it’s good on plants, for the toilet, for cleaning up a spot on the floor, etc. I’m pretty sure everyone knows about packing a bucket with snow. Shoveling snow is another way to come up with water. Keep up the good work! — No name, no town.
