BYRON — An extensive search for a 46-year-old man missing from his home at 38 Noyes Road entered its fifth day Monday without success, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant said.

Derek Adams, 46, disappeared at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, along with Copper, his 2-year-old German shepherd mix, officials said.

The dog showed up at the house Sunday, Gallant said, and snowmobilers were able to track its prints back along a snowmobile trail near the house but did not see signs of Adams.

“We’re still searching for him,” the sheriff said Monday evening. “We now have the (Maine) Warden Service … as well as state police” joining the hunt. He said there has been a “huge outreach” from snowmobilers, snowshoers and others.

“We’re still looking and we’ve got a lot of people still looking,” Gallant said.

Oxford County Deputy Tom Harriman said camps in the area have been searched and “we’re working the Coos Canyon area heavily.” Coos Canyon is southwest of Noyes Road.

Adams disappeared the day before a Nor’easter that dumped more than 2 feet of snow in the area Thursday night and early Friday morning.

Adams lives with a family in Byron and has family members who live in Hanover, Harriman said.

“Most of the people in the area know who he is,” Gallant said. “He’s a nice man.”

Adams is described as a white male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall with brownish-gray hair. He usually wears glasses, but reportedly did not have them or his daily medication when he left his home.

It is unclear how he was dressed when he disappeared, Harriman said.

Gallant said Adams does not suffer from dementia.

Searchers will resume their efforts Tuesday, Harriman said.

Any information about Adams’ location can be directed to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office at 1-800-733-1421.
