General Supt. G. W. Bowie of the Lewiston, Auburn & Waterville Street Railway went to Boston, Thursday, to close a deal with the Franklin Co. for 29,000 square feet of land between Park and Knox streets, Lewiston, which is directly in the rear of a plot between Lisbon and Park streets, now occupied by the power house and car barns. A paint shed in which the work for the entire system will be done will be built on the new lot. Heretofore painting of cars has been done in Hallowell.

A text on Maine government written by three Lewiston social studies teachers is now available to Maine high schools, the Maine Teachers Association announced Friday. The MTA has underwritten publication of the 65-page softcover book which was planned to fill a gap in the material available to teachers of Maine government. The authors of the book are Miss Geneva Kirk, chairman of the Lewiston High School social studies department, Robert V. Connors and Richard Snow.

Maine’s two public broadcasting networks could be one by July 1 if a proposal to merge receives a series of approvals beginning today. Robert Gardiner, president of Lewiston’s WCBB-TV, Channel 10, said his board of trustees will vote on merging with the Maine Public Broadcasting Network at a meeting beginning at 9 a.m. The University of Maine System, to which MPBN is licensed, will see its trustees vote Monday, Gardiner said.
