TUESDAY, Feb. 7

LEWISTON — City Council meeting, 7 p.m. at City Hall. Agenda includes discussion on a one-year purchase option extension with Platz Associates for Bates Mill No. 5, a public hearing on the city’s Capital Improvement Program, and confirmation of Luke Jensen as Ward 5 representative on the School Committee.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council will launch its new TALK positive communication campaign, 1:30 p.m. at City Hall. TALK stands for Treat All Listeners Kindly. The students want to encourage individuals to communicate with others in a respectful manner.

LEWISTON — Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and author Chris Hedges will speak at 7 p.m., Olin Concert Hall, Bates College, followed by reception and book signing. Hedges was a foreign correspondent for the New York Times in Africa and the Middle East, and is a recently ordained minister and graduate of Harvard Divinity School. He speaks on war, religion and American culture. He teaches college courses to incarcerated and non-incarcerated students.
