The marriage of J. Z. Campbell, well-known businessman of Lewiston, and Miss Clara Bedard of Montreal., P.Q., took place in St. Andre’s church, Montreal, Monday morning, and the couple have returned to make their home here. Unusual interest has been shown in this event in view of the fact that the bride is but 21 years of age while Mr. Campbell is more then three score years old. Mrs. Campbell is an accomplished musician and was a successful music teacher in Montreal at the time of her marriage. Mr. Campbell has been a dealer in hair goods and theatrical equipment in Lewiston for many years and has been engaged in real estate and insurance. Auburn police said today that while yesterday’s northeaster should have provided ample opportunity for enforcement of the city’s new snow tire ordinance, the officers actually had little time to check for possible violations. Chief Stephen Smyc noted that the department had some 20 automobiles towed off the streets by wreckers, many of them at the request of the owners when they found themselves unable to reach their homes through snow-clogged streets. He said the department finally had to give up and leave some of the vehicles where they were because there just weren’t enough wreckers to go around. “We had enough other problems without digging the snow away from stranded automobiles to see what kind of tires they had.”

Beginning today, Locust Street in Lewiston will be closed to through traffic in order to protect the public safety, said acting City Administrator Mark Adams. The temporary closure comes on the heels of an inspection of the railroad bridge prompted by an accident on Feb. 15 when a truck struck the overhead bridge, which has only a 10-foot clearance. According to Timothy J. Catella, the chief engineer who conducted the bridge inspection, the span was first erected in 1888 but has undergone numerous upgrades over the years.
