Fishing derby cancelled

NEW SHARON — The annual Cape Cod Hill School Fishing Derby that was scheduled for Saturday, March 4, has been cancelled due to unsafe ice conditions.

Blood drive taking place on March 3

FARMINTON — Franklin Memorial Hospital is hosting its annual winter blood drive on Friday, March 3, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Bass Room.

Currently the blood supply is low which has resulted in a critical need for all blood types. According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. There is no upper age limit, and most medications and medical conditions do not prohibit someone from donating blood through the Red Cross. An ID is required.

Veggies performing at AMVETS

JAY — The Veggies will perform from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the AMVETS Post 33 on Main Street.

There will not be a cover charge.

BRIGTON — The Socrates Cafe will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, at the Bridgton Community Center, where the group will now meet.

The topic will be “Turning One-Off Events Into Movements: How Does One Build And Spend Political Capital?” Bob Casimiro and Ted Gerber will moderate.

Paint the Town for PPL 

PARIS — The Paint the Town fundraiser for Paris Public Library will include an afternoon of painting with Karen Schroeder Daniels of Paint the Town from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at First Congregational Church of South Paris, 17 East Main St.

The cost will be $35 per person, and tickets are available at Paris Public Library. All monies raised support the library.

Crafting group to meet 

OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Sewing and Craft Group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church off Route 121. The group does not meet the third Wednesday of the month.

The club members put on the tea kettle and and meet to work on individual and group projects and share ideas, skills, books and patterns. Projects members work on include knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, fabric painting, card making from scraps, sewing table runners, making Christmas crafts and zentangle.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club winners on Feb. 17 were, first in flight A, Dot Kelleher and Mike True; second, Nancy Lindgren and Paul Clement; third, Hazel Glazier and Marta Clements; fourth and first in B, Denise Whitley and Neanie Kivus; second in B, Claire Lyons and Barbara Vanderzanden; third and first in C, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr; fourth in B and second in C, Milt McKeen Jr. and Jim Krainin; third in C were B.J. and Steve Cavicchi; and, fourth, Arlen Riis and Elaine Dresser.

Games are played at 9:15 a.m. Fridays at the Oxford Recreation Building on King Street. All bridge players are welcome, and a partner is guarenteed.
