RUMFORD — Marcia Ruth Plaag Schroeder, 90, of Grandview Estates in Mexico passed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 5, at the Rumford Community Home after years of struggling with emphysema.

She was born on April 8, 1926, in Trenton, N.J., to Frederick W. and Ella (Frese) Plaag. In March 1964, she moved to Maine where in 2001 she began college at the age of 75 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts Studies Magna Cum Laude from University of Maine Augusta. Learning was her passion in life.

She was married in Trenton, N.J., to Arthur Schroeder who died in Andover on Feb. 11, 2005.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Begley and her spouse, Judith McEnroe, of Berkeley, Calif., and Joanne E. Rake and her husband, Jeffrey, of Georgetown,Texas; a son, Scott Gallos and his wife, Brenda, of Santa Teresa, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Karen Gucwa of High Point, N.C.; sisters, Gladys Munley of Columbia, N.J., and Betty Lou McGarrity of Rochester, N.H.; a dear brother-in-law, Fred Gewiss of Media, Pa.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins, plus caring beloved friends for whom she is very grateful.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Arthur Schroeder; and a sister, Jan Gewiss.
