LEWISTON — A group of young fiddlers known as the Sizzlin’ Shamrocks will be joined by other area folk musicians in a festive St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Governor’s Restaurant in Lewiston on Friday, March 17, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The multi-age ensemble will entertain diners with a lively mix of Irish and French Canadian jigs and reels performed on mandolin, guitar, bodhran and spoons as well as multiple fiddles. Governor’s, in turn, has pledged to donate 10 percent of the proceeds from the restaurant’s food sales that evening to the Maine Folque Co-op, in order to support the organization’s youth music program which founded the Sizzlin’ Shamrocks and similar musical ensembles.
In honor of the occasion, the Governor’s menu will include a traditional Irish boiled dinner featuring a heaping plate of corned beef, cabbage, carrots, turnips and potatoes, accompanied by a fresh-baked dinner roll from Governor’s in-house bakery. Other dining options include a variety of St. Patrick’s Day-themed desserts and Maine-Irish brews from Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company in Bangor.
Governor’s Restaurant is located at 1185 Lisbon Street in Lewiston. FMI: Call Governor’s at 753-0173 or go online to www.GovernorsRestaurant.com, or the Folque Co-op at www.MaineFolqueCo-op.com.
