PARIS — Four libraries in the Oxford Hills area will kick off a program, “52 Weeks of Giving,” on Saturday, April 1, that encourages community involvement and reaching out to help others at local and international levels.

The Hamlin Memorial Library on Paris Hill, the Harrison Village Library, the Norway Memorial Library and the Paris Public Library will participate and will rotate through hosting or promoting weekly activities or ideas for the program.

The Hamlin Library will feature an activity or program the first week of each month, Paris Public Library will host the second week of each month, Harrison Village Library will host the third week and the Norway Memorial Library will host the fourth week.

The programs will run for 52 weeks, through April 1, 2018. They are open to people of all ages, and families are encouraged to attend and visit all four libraries.

Programs include volunteering at community gardens; creating and posting random notes of kindness in public places; cleaning up local hiking trails; raising money for Responsible Pet Care; writing welcoming letters to refugee families in Maine; and sending care packages to soldiers overseas.

Those associated with a community-minded organization interested in partnering with a library on one of these programs are asked to reach out to collaborate.

The libraries will keep participants updated with weekly Facebook posts highlighting that week’s activity.
