Annual antique, collectible sale

FARMINGTON — Fairbanks School’s annual antique and collectible sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at 508 Fairbanks Road, Route 4.

Lots of interesting items will be featured, including furniture, glass, vintage clothing, kitchenware, jewelry, collectibles, and more. 

Donations will be accepted for the sale.

Gardening despite aging workshop

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer the workshop “Gardening Forever: Adapting with Age” from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the West Farmington Grange, 124 Bridge St.

This workshop will help gardeners learn how subtle changes in the way they work can reduce stress and strain.

It will be led by Leilani Carlson, AgrAbility specialist, and Ellen Gibson, Goodwill Workforce Solutions.

The workshop is free, but registrations are required.

‘What Good Is Story?’

FARMINGTON — Storyfest of the University of Maine at Farmington will present “What Good Is Story? Telling Tales in Uncertain Times” from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Roberts Building Room 023.

The talk will discuss how stories — folktales, legends, personal stories and more —contain unsuspected depths and powers. Folklorists and storytellers Jo Radner of Lovell and Peggy Yocom of Farmington will discuss with audience members how stories work on multiple levels, how human brains are wired to think in story form, and how knowing about story and storytelling practices can serve now — as charges of “fake news” fly often.

The event is free and open to the public.

Collective goods fundraiser in Bridgton

BRIDGTON — Bridgton Hospital will host the bi-annual Collective Goods (formally Books Are Fun) fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the cafeteria of the hospital.

The sale will feature a great selection of children’s story books, cookbooks, holiday items, stationery, music, educational books and items, executive gifts and more.

Proceeds will benefit the CMHC Employee Emergency Assistance Fund, which awards dollars to employees (including Bridgton Hospital staff) experiencing extenuating financial hardship.

This sale is open to the public.

‘Planning Your Dollars’ workshop

NORWAY — April is National Financial Literacy Month, and in recognition of that, Norway Memorial Library will host Chris Davis of New Ventures Maine to present “Planning Your Dollars” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.

For participants who consider money management a stressor, the workshop will explore tips, resources and roadmaps that may guide them to a healthier relationship with income, expenses and goals. This program is open to the public and free of charge.

Iceland talk at Whitman Library

BRYANT POND — Nancy McClean-Morrisette, director of guidance at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library. The talk will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13.

She will speak about her recent trip to Iceland. 

The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.
