LEWISTON — John E. Sands, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 12, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born in Lewiston on July 23, 1932, the son of the late Arthur and Emma (Carrigan) Sands.

John lived in Maine his entire life, graduating from Edward Little High School and later joining the U.S. Air Force. On July 11, 1959, he married the love of his life, Rosemarie Cyr, and they shared a loving marriage of more than 57 years. John was a devout Catholic, and was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and throughout his life, he would often be seen watching various sports. John was an avid bowler and played baseball for the Sportsman Tavern. In his later years, he would spend most of his time outdoors and checking out yard sales.

John is survived by his wife, Rosemarie (Cyr); his three children, Gregory and his wife, Kim, of Minot, Brenda and her husband, Mark Whiting, of Livermore Falls, and Patrick and his wife, Pennie Sands, of Mechanic Falls; his four grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, Shawn and Sara; his “grand-dog,” Joe; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Patricia Brown; and his brother, James Sands.
