Free money management class

FARMINGTON — New Ventures Maine will offer My Money Works, a free five-week class starting Thursday, April 27, to teach the skills and confidence to stretch money, pay bills, reduce debt, find money for savings, plan for retirement, and set personal financial goals.

The class will be held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., meeting for five sessions: April 27, May 4, 11, 18, and 25. Classes take place at New Ventures Office, 108 Perham St., Suite No. 2, Farmington.

Pre-registration is required, and there is no fee for the training.

Daughters of Union Vets to meet

PARIS — The Daughters of Union Veteran of the Civil War, 1861-1865 Hannah F. Richardson Tent No. 19, Stoneham, held their regular monthly meeting on March 23 at the First Baptist Church of Paris on Paris Hill. Plans were made to have a “foodless” food sale as a fundraiser soon.

The group is open to ladies who have ancestors in the Civil War.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 27, at the same location. Members should bring membership cards to make sure they are up to date.

4th Thursday Poetry featuring poet laureate

RUMFORD — The Rumford Library’s 4th Thursday poetry gathering set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, will feature Maine poet laureate Wesley McNair reading his “Poems of Love and Hope.”

The April 27 event marks McNair’s third reading at the Rumford Library and the third anniversary of the group’s beginning in April 2014 during Poetry Month.

Light refreshments will be served at an informal reception following the reading.

4th Thursday is free and open to the public.

Living Well workshop series

RANGELEY — The next Living Well workshop series will be held on Thursdays, April 27 to June 1, at Rangeley Family Medicine, 42 Dallas Hill Road.

Living Well is a free, six-week workshop held once a week for two and a half hours each session. Discussion and activities focus on topics such as dealing with frustration, exercising at individual levels of ability, working with health care providers, setting personal goals, managing pain, healthy eating and improving communication skills.  A family member, friend or caregiver can also participate.

A book and relaxation CD are loaned out for use during class. Books and CD will be available for purchase.

Rumford Seniors to see ‘Ripcord’ 

PERU — The Rumford Seniors will bus to Lewiston to see “Ripcord,” a comedy, at 6 p.m. Friday, May 12.

Sign up is required by Thursday, April 20.

Cost is $42 for members or $47 for nonmembers. 

Softball team offers spring cleanup

JAY — The Spruce Mountain Lady Phoenix softball team is hosting the annual Spring Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 29. Time slots available are 9 to 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 2 to 4 p.m.

Team members will assist the community in raking, sweeping, garden clean-up and small off jobs. Three players and an adult will work for a donation; the suggested donation is $45.

Garden Angel Project accepting applications

FARMINGTON — The Garden Angel Project committee has been working very hard on setting up the process for the 2017 season by gathering information, acquiring volunteers, planning for 24 recipients’ needs for vegetable and herb plants and seeds, preparing boxes and legs, and of course waiting on the weather to make sure it is safe to deliver boxes, soil and plants when there is no chance of frost.

The 2017 recipient applications have been distributed at the Care and Share Food Closet, the Industry Food Pantry, the Wilton Methodist Church, and are available at the Franklin County Extension Office. Past recipients will need to fill out an application for this current year. Only one application per family is allowed.

Applications should be filled out and returned to the Franklin County Extension Office by Monday, May 1. Those who applies will be called and advised of their status for the 2017 season.
