TUESDAY, May 2

LEWISTON — City Council budget hearing and meeting, 7 p.m. at City Hall. Agenda includes vote on proposed Lewiston school budget that goes to referendum May 9, and the final public hearing on the fiscal 2017-18 budget. 

AUBURN — Author visit at Auburn Public Library, 2 p.m. John Henderson who wrote “The Androscoggin Irish” will explore the Irish origins of those who settled locally, their neighborhoods, what they did for work and where they worshipped.

WEDNESDAY, May 3

AUBURN — School Committee, 7 p.m., Auburn Hall. On agenda, vote on school budget and proposed early-release days for grades 7-12. Thirteen Wednesdays have been identified for early release; older students would be released at 11:30 a.m., younger students, who already have half-day Wednesdays will be dismissed at 12:30.

SATURDAY, May 6

LEWISTON — Make Shift Coffee House, 6-10 p.m., Lewiston Public Library. Discussions about the right role of government in shaping the community, where should government be most active or hands off, moderated by Craig Freshley of Good Group Decisions. Free food and music starts at 6:30, followed by group discussions and full-group discussion at 7:30. More music, refreshments and conversation will close the session. Sponsored by the library, Project Tipping Point and Lewiston Rocks.
