DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the Jay and Livermore Falls area we will hold our annual fundraiser Flowers for Food. This event helps raise funds for our local Food Cupboard, and also honors the memory of Marcel Castonguay. Freshly-cut daffodils from several large gardens will be available for a donation to the Tri-Town Food Cupboard. The next two weekends we will be at Food City in Livermore Falls: May 4 through 6 and May 11 through 13. Exact times may vary.

If anyone wishes to help fight hunger in our communities, they are urged to support the Flowers for Food fundraiser and even pick up some extras to brighten the day of a loved one or shut-in. If any volunteers would like to help at the sale sites, please call Martina Eastman at 207-897-3171 or Krista White at 207-897-6773. We look forward to sharing our beautiful fresh flowers with the community while we help raise money to help buy food for those who are hungry.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: With all the gas stations in Lewiston, isn’t there one that offers full serve? Lewiston has many seniors as well as some handicapped persons and others with chemical sensitivities. It would be a great service for these people. — No name, Lewiston.

ANSWER: Almost every full-serve gas station has become a self-serve station across the country, but most places will help fill your gas if you need assistance. The Americans with Disabilites Act (https://www.ada.gov/gasserve.htm) requires self-serve gas stations to provide equal access to their customers with disabilities.

If necessary to provide access, gas stations must:

* Provide refueling assistance upon the request of an individual with a disability. A service station or convenience store is not required to provide such service at any time that it is operating on a remote control basis with a single employee, but is encouraged to do so, if feasible;

* Let patrons know (e.g., through appropriate signs) that customers with disabilities can obtain refueling assistance by either honking or otherwise signaling an employee; and

* Provide the refueling assistance without any charge beyond the self-serve price.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone know where (Little Debbie) Crunch Donuts can be bought? I used to get them at a store in Minot but they don’t carry them now. — No name, no town.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Spring is here and spring is a time for plant sales. The Treat Memorial Library will have a fundraiser plant sale during History Night weekend, May 26 through 28. They need gardens to dig from (we dig or you dig), perennials dug and labeled (or we dig), empty plant pots, and volunteers to dig, pot, or label plants. No experience is necessary. This could be a chance for some hands-on learning! And the library trustees would be most appreciative of the donations or help. If you have an interest or some time to give, please call Lynn Knight at 207-897-2489 or the Treat Memorial Library, 56 Main St., Livermore Falls, at 207-897-3631.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to a reader’s request for Bibles, please contact Barry Sanborn of Wales by cellphone at 207-520-7850 anytime.
