Mexico Public Library summer hours 

MEXICO — The Mexico Public Library will operate in its summer hours from May 14 to Aug. 26.

The library will be closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

It will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

There will be no children’s story time during the summer.

Book Café, the adult reading group, will continue to meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:45 to 7 p.m. and new members are always welcome.

Sons of Italy meeting

RUMFORD — Sons of Italy will hold a regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, on Route 108.

A light lunch will be served. This meeting is to go over the monthly agenda. Guests are welcome.

The organization is seeking donations from their members for their upcoming yard sale on May 19, 20, and 21.

NORWAY — The May meeting of Oxford County Educators-Retired is to be held  at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

The program will be presented by Robin Taylor Chiarello. She is the author of “Limbo,” one of the books OCEA-R donated to libraries this past fall. The organization donates books to every public library in Oxford County that has a children’s section.

There will be a meal served by the culinary arts students at OHCHS, following the meeting. Robin Taylor’s presentation will take place after the meal.

The fundraiser for May will be a plant sale. OCEA-R encourages all retirees who have worked in educational systems to attend. The meetings are informational, the meals are excellent, the programs varied and entertaining, and the organization is a voice for retired teachers.

Volunteers needed for Memorial Day Parade

LIVERMORE FALLS — The Memorial Day Parade committee is looking for scouts, 4H, school groups, church groups, fire departments, ATV clubs, businesses, towns, town officials, state and national leaders and many others to participate in the parade and service.

This is a community parade to honor and remember those who gave themselves for the nation. The theme for the 2017 Memorial Day Parade is ” Those We Have Lost.”

Anyone who may have convertible cars or trailers that can be used to carry the parade marshall, veterans, auxiliary members, and others in the parade, contact Don Simoneau or Diane Getx. 

More volunteers are needed to help plan the parade, as this is one of the few Memorial Day Parades that are still running. The communities of Jay, Livermore, Fayette and Livermore Falls have had these parades and gatherings since the Grand Army of the Republic, after the end of the Civil War in 1868.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club results on May 5 were, first in N/S Flight A, Sherry Hinckley and Fred Letourneau; second, Mike Quinn and Mike True; third in A and first in B and C, Diane and Frank Ferland; fourth in A and second in B, Eleanor and Lindy Wigton; and, third in B and second in C, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr.

Finishing first in E/W Flight A, Norma and Rick Verrill; second in A, Nancy Farmer and Barbara Newcomb; third in A, Hazel Glazier and Marta Clements; fourth in A and first in B and C, B.J. and Steve Cavicchi; second in B and C, Elaine Dresser and Arlen Riis; and, third in B, Cynthia and Bill Clifford J.R.

Games are played at 9:15 a.m. on Fridays at the Oxford Recreation Building on King Street. A partner is guarentee, and all bridge players are welcome.
