AUBURN — Joan Bernard, 78, of Lisbon passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, at the Hospice House in Auburn with her loving companion, Richard at her side.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 28, 1938, the daughter of the late James and Madeline (Bennett) Zubrod. She spent most of her childhood in New York and attended schools there.

Later in life, she moved to Maine where her passion for working in the theatre life encompassed her. She loved acting, singing and dancing and made many friends along the way doing it. Joan also enjoyed doing needle work and making different flower arrangements. She was even a judge for the Maine Flower Association. Also, Joan was extremely proud to be awarded the title of Mrs. Maine in the early 1990’s. She will be deeply missed by many.

She is survived by her loving companion of 17 years, Richard Coffin of Lisbon and her little cat, Twinkle. She also leaves behind her two grandchildren, Angela Murray of Oklahoma and James Zee Cary of California, as well as three great-grandchildren, Brandon Murray, Thomas Horton and Fabian Cary.

She was predeceased by her former spouse, Stanley Bernard in 1999 and her daughter, Joanne Cary in 2016.
