Old Town’s Fourth Annual Memorial Day Parade and We Honor Veterans celebration, will be held this Monday, May 29.
The Old Town-Orono YMCA will start events off at with the “Run to Remember 5K.” During last year’s first 5K at the celebration, $1,500 was raised for scholarship veteran memberships at the YMCA. Following the race will be the Memorial Day Parade; immediately after the parade, the We Honor Our Veterans Celebration will be held at Riverfront Park. Events will include live music by Little Rodeo, and local radio personality Mike Dow will again be the emcee. Old Town City officials again will be speaking at the event.
The menu for this year’s event will include pork barbecue, beans, hotdogs, coleslaw, dessert supplied by LaBree’s Bakery and a beverage. Big Dawg Barbecue will be cooking though the night to prepare the food for the Veterans Celebration.
Additionally Old Town Canoe and Kayak has once again donated a Predator pedal kayak and a Discovery 16 canoe to be raffled. With the help of the Old Town VFW American Legion, and Old Town City Hall, raffle tickets are being sold at these locations.
An Old Town Memorial Day Parade Fund account has been set up at Bangor Savings Bank in Old Town; checks can be made out to the Old Town Memorial Day Parade Fund, and all donations are tax deductible.
