LEWISTON — Robert “Bob” Allen, 87, a resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston on the evening of Monday, May 29. Throughout the day, he was surrounded by his wife, his children, and grandchildren, and he passed with his wife and two grandchildren at his side.
Bob was born in Salem, Mass., on May 22, 1930, and graduated from Salem High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served two years. In 1952, the Navy released him in San Diego with $5 in his pocket, and he made his way back to Massachusetts. In 1953, he married Bertha Tetenman and had four children. In 1957, he took his growing family to Maine. In 1986, he married Sandra Zallen and was happily married for the past 31 years.
Bob was an entrepreneur, starting and running a number of business in textiles, including Fancy Stitchers. At its peak, Fancy Stitchers employed 550 people in the L-A area. Bob enjoyed golf and was Martindale’s Twilight League Champion one year, a proud moment for him and his family. Cribbage was another love of his, often playing with his sons and grandsons.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, of Auburn; a brother, Richard of Fairfax, Va.; one daughter, Cindy of Cape Neddick; three sons, Michael and wife, Susan, of Tucson, Ariz., Donald and partner, Dianne Cote, of Auburn, and David and wife, Anne, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Joshua and wife, Clara, Jessica, Jacob and Adam; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Chase.
Bob’s parents, Harry (1975) and Dot Allen (1985), lived and passed in Massachusetts.
