Eight local law enforcement officers teamed up with a Special Olympian to gobble down three donuts each on National Donut Day. Trent Paradis of Lewiston and Lewiston police officer Andrew James won the contest, earning Paradis the chance to attend the Boston Red Sox game against the Cleveland Indians on Aug. 1 with his dad. Shop owners Norm and Joline Boulay have hosted the doughnut-eating contest for over 15 years and raised $2,000 for Special Olympics Maine. Norm Boulay said 1,982 donuts were made for his store to give away Friday. A typical day is about 400 donuts, he said.
