FALMOUTH — Rita B. Spencer, 91, of Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, died early Saturday morning on June 10, following a long, courageous battle against dementia.
Rita was born in Mackamp on Sept. 26, 1925, daughter of Valmore Bruneau and Alice Grenier Bruneau. She was a resident of the Lewiston-Auburn area with summers at “Memere’s Lake” on Lake Cobbossecontee.

She was the widow of Gerard Doyon, who passed away in 1976, and Donald Spencer, who passed away in 2000.
She is survived by her daughter, Gertrude McCarthy and husband, Robert; four grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Memere Spencer,” Michelle (Meesh) McCarthy and partner, Oliver Sawtelle, Danielle St. Just and husband, George Gomes-daCosta, Kevin McCarthy and Suzanne McKenzie; one stepgrandson, Jeffrey Neagle and wife, Donna; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Joshua Neagle and Kyle Neagle; one sister, Jeannine Stuhr of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson-in-law, Ucal McKenzie; two brothers, Lucien (Lou) Bruneau and Henry Bruneau; and two sisters, Fernand Clavet and Simonne Bruneau.
