DIXFIELD — Residents in Dixfield on Tuesday rejected a $13.2 million budget for Regional School Unit 56 by a vote of 181-254.
Canton voters approved it, 85-54.
Results from Carthage and Peru were not available late Tuesday.
The four towns voted in November to leave RSU 10 and form their own district to save money and gain more control.
This first year budget for RSU 56 showed each town’s share would increase over 20 percent from last year, when they were part of RSU 10.
