PANAMA CITY, Fla. — James Michael Holland of Panama City, Fla., passed away on Saturday, June 10, at Covenant Care Hospice in Panama City, with his loving family and beloved dog, Taylor, by his side.

Mike was born January 18, 1943, in Danville, Ill., to Maxine and James Holland, and attended school in Roxana, Ill.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 and proudly served his country for more than 20 years. During this time, he accrued The National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal, along with numerous commendations and good conduct awards. After retiring in his adopted state of Maine, Mike earned his associate degree through the University of Maine system and Southern Maine Vocational Tech. Institute, subsequently working for Bath Iron Works until his permanent retirement in 2002.

The bass population in Maine was greatly diminished by Mike’s love and skill of fishing. Camping and hunting adventures were also high on his list of life’s pleasures.

Mike is survived by his wife, Denise Holland; son, Michael Holland and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mass.; daughter, Daphne Jacques and her husband, Glenn, of Conn.; sisters, Patricia Weir of Ill., and Lee Holland of Wash.; grandsons, Joshua Holland and Nick Jacques; and granddaughters, Kelsey and Morgan Jacques; as well as several great-grandchildren; nieces, Christie Darr and her husband, Todd, and Sarah Holland; and nephew, Micah Brooks and his wife, Shannon.
