PARIS — Oxford County Administrator Scott Cole said at Tuesday morning’s county commissioners meeting that the rehabilitation of the courthouse will begin “within the next couple of weeks.”

For several years, commissioners have been seeking to revamp and expand the two-story brick building atop the hill at 26 Western Ave.

Built in 1895, it is home to Oxford County Superior Court, county administrative offices, the Oxford County Registry of Deeds Office, Oxford County Probate Court and the assistant district attorney’s office.

Cole said Tuesday that a pre-construction meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 24.

“The work is going to consist of roof repairs, exterior repairs, trim work and masonry work,” Cole said. “It’s just a warm-up for the chaos that will be here for the next couple of years, starting next winter.”

He was referring to building the addition, creating more parking spaces and moving some offices.

In other business, commissioners voted unanimously to hire Douglas A. Fillebrown of Waterford as a dispatch supervisor at the Oxford County Regional Communications Center in Paris. He has been working for the communications center for four years.

Director of Communications James Miclon said three people applied for the position, and all of them passed written exams and fit the criteria for the position.

Miclon said a panel of three interviewed the candidates and chose Fillebrown, citing him as the “best qualified” for the job.

“It was heavily recommended by the interview panel that I recommend Mr. Fillebrown to you, the commissioners,” Miclon said.

Commissioners also voted to approve a $2,000 contract between the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and the town of Brownfield.

Sheriff Wayne Gallant said that the Saco River Council came up with $2,000 for the Sheriff’s Office to “do additional patrols near the Saco River Campground.”

“We’ll be doing four-hour patrols every Sunday for about seven weeks,” Gallant said.
