United New Auburn Association meeting

AUBURN — The United New Auburn Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Rolly’s Diner.

The speaker will be the city manager Peter Crichton.

MHS preparing for encampment

MINOT — Minot Historical Society will host a Civil War Encampment from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at 493 Center Minot Hill Road.

The event will show  what life was like for a typical soldier in camp during the American Civil War. Reenactors will demonstrate common military drills, and the society’s home, an 1830s parsonage, will be open for tours. Those attending may pose for and purchase a tintype photo from AgNO3 labs. The society will have lunches for purchase and Spruce Roosters will provide period music.

Cupcake decorating at LPL

LEWISTON — Lewiston Public Library will host a cupcake decorating event from noon to 1:30 p.m.  Saturday, July 29, in Callahan Hall.

Community members may decorate a cupcake of their choosing with frosting and other edible pieces. There is an optional contest portion for participants who would like to enter their creation where the winner will receive supplies for baking at home.

This event is part of the Build a Better World Summer Reading Program and is open to all ages. Those ages 12 and younger will be required to have an adult attend with them. Supplies will be given on a first come, first serve basis and registration is recommended.

Grandfather Tang’s Story Bag

AUBURN — Auburn Public Library will present Grandfather Tang’s Story Bag at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, in the Maggie Trafton Room at the library, 49 Spring St. 

Kids will hear “Grandfather Tang’s Story” by Ann Tompert and illustrated by Robert Andrew Parker.

Cindy Petherbridge will lead participants in re-creating the tangram animals in the story and then, using fusible fabric, create one of the animals (or their own design) that will be ironed onto a canvas bag that they may take home.
