So, let me get this straight — the Lewiston Auburn Joint Charter Commission is comprised of several business and government leaders, including Chip Morrison, who was a former Auburn city manager and former president of the Lewiston Auburn Chamber of Commerce. The Commission also includes Lucien Gosselin, a long-time Lewiston city administrator and participant in the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council. Gene Geiger has, likewise, been actively involved in the Chamber of Commerce and local business efforts.

These three men have been in business development in the Twin Cities for the past 30 years or more. And yet, as members of the Joint Charter Commission, they are arguing that economic development in the two cities has been so poor in the past 30 years that the cities need to merge to improve things.

Exactly why should residents be trusting those people with the future of the communities? Haven’t they been part of the problem for the past 30 years? Why should residents believe them now, when they say that a merger would improve the economic mess that they have been a prominent part of for more than a generation?
